Textile silicon solar cells on glass fibre compound systems

Textile_Solarzelle

The joint project "TexSiSolar" was part of the programme promoting "Thuringia –GreenTech" and received funding from the Thüringer Aufbaubank (TAB), who we would like to thank. The following companies were involved in the project: Vitrulan Technical Textiles GmbH, ITP GmbH (Weimar branch), DBW Fiber Neuhaus GmbH as well as the following research institutes: Fraunhofer IOF, IPHT e.V. and FSU-IAP. Solarmoduleson textileglass fibre substrates are significantly lighter than conventional solar modules. They weigh only 100g per square metre of surface area. These textile solar modules are extremely durable and resilient, and large areas can be produced cost-effectively.Furthermore, these modules are, to varying degrees, extremely flexible. Such exceptional properties make the ofuse these textile solar modules in the automotive industry and in buildings particularly interesting. In addition to this, these types of solar cells on individual fibres are, when also combined with light-conducting fibre properties, particularly suited to supplying electricity to electronic components. The glass-fibre substrate has high thermal resistance, which is a great advantage, as this means that high value crystalline silicon layers can be applied with high efficiency as an active material. This collaborative project has reached a successful conclusion.
