ReMask - united forces against the mask emergency
Empa researchers are working on the "ReMask" project together with a nationwide team from research, healthcare and industry. The project involves the development of technologies for the reuse of existing masks, the domestic production of efficient protective equipment and the development of alternative masks with new properties to bind and kill viruses.
Tests are under way in the Empa laboratories to ensure that the reuse of masks also leads to a more sustainable use of material resources, and to find ways of sterilizing the masks non-destructively, storing them for longer periods, and proving their effectiveness beyond doubt even after repeated use.
